Application Guidelines

It is very important that before you apply any of our natural stone sealers that the surface you are sealing is properly prepared. If this is not done, the resulting finish may not be as good as you expected.

For any external natural stone surface, it is vital that it is pressure cleaned prior to sealing to remove any dirt or grime. It should also be left to dry out as the sealers should be applied once the surface is dry. This is not so important with our water based impregnating sealers but essential if applying a solvent based sealer.

  1. It is advisable not to apply our natural stone sealers in temperatures above 25o C or below 7o C.
  2. If sealing sandstone or limestone that has sand filled joints, please ensure that any sand does not remain on the surface and stays between the joints of the sandstone paving slabs.
  3. Always use a brush or roller on small areas but a sprayer is best on larger natural stine surfaces.
  4. To ensure the surface seaks smoothly, try to avoid walking on the sealed natural stone for 3-4 hours after the sealer has been applied. Cars and other vehicles should be kept off the sealed surface for at least 24 hours afterwards.

Please note that application rates will vary considerably depending on the type of natural stone being sealed. They will range from around 6sq metres per litre for sandstone and up to 12-15sq metres per litre for granite and marble which are much less porous.

Suitable natural stone surfaces: Sandstone, limestone, terracotta, marble, slate, granite, terrazzo and travertine.
