Q. Will the Natural Stone Sealer make the surface slippery to walk on?
A. Most types of natural stone have a textured surface that will make the surface 'non-slip' anyway. However granite, marble, slate and terrazzo can be very smooth and become slippery when wet. Impregnating sealers will not make these surfaces any more sliipery than they already are.
Q. Does the Natural Stone Sealer alter the colour or appearance of the surface being sealed?
A. Our natural stone sealers are impregnating sealers and will not alter the natural colouring of the surface.
Q. What types of natural stone are suitable for your sealers ?
A. Our natural stone sealers are fine for most varieties natural stone - such as sandstone, travertine, slate, marble, granite and terracotta.
Q. Why do the coverage rates vary?
A. Due to the different porosity levels of natural stone, such as low levels in granite to higher levels found in sandstone the amount of sealer used will vary considerably.
Q. How is the natural stone sealer applied?
A. A roller or brush is best used on smaller areas or a sprayer can be used on larger aareas.
Q. Will the natural stone sealers help stop the spread of mould and algae?
A. Our natural stone sealers will stop water from penetrating the surface of the natural stone. The water resistant surface will make it a more unlikely environment for algae and mould to grow and spread on the surface.
Q. Are the natural stone sealers ok to use internally and externally?
A. Yes, the natural stone sealers are suitable for interior and exterior use.
Q. Can you advise on coverage rates of the Natural Stone Sealer?
A. The coverage rates will vary widely from 6sq metres per litre for sandstone and up to 12-15sq metres per litre for granite and marble which are much less porous.
Q. How does a topical sealer differ from an impregnating sealer?
A. A topical sealer will not penetrate the surface and could seal in trapped moisture. It can also darken the colour of the natural stone. An impregnating natural stone sealer will penetrate the substrate works effectively from inside the stone. Impregnating sealers are best used on natural stone to keep the surface looking natural.
Q. How easy are they to apply?
A. Very easy as the vast majority of our customers are homeowners not particularly skilled in DIY.
Q. How often do I need to re-seal with your natural stone sealer?
A. It does depend on which sealer is used. Some should be re-applied every 3-5 years dependent on use, whereas others can last as much as 10 years.
Q. Would it be possible to change the colour of my natural stone?
A. We would strongly advise against attempting to change the colour of natural stone. If you want to go dowbn this route, a dedicated colour enhancer can be used to emphasize any original colouring.
